Frequently asked questions

Learn more about Pastoral Partners Australia, our approach and carbon offsetting below.

Terminology explained

A carbon offset is the use of a carbon credit to mitigate emissions that an organisation cannot eliminate. When a company purchases and retires a carbon credit, it is effectively neutralising one tonne of its own emissions and this activity is referred to as carbon offsetting.

NFMR (Native Forest from Managed Regrowth) is an ACCU methodology that supports the regeneration of native forests on land that has been historically cleared and suppressed for grazing purposes. It requires evidence of prior clearing, active management to enable regrowth, and long term stewardship to maintain forest cover.

Net zero refers to the point at which an organisation, country, or global economy balances the amount of greenhouse gases it emits with the amount it removes from the atmosphere.

The Pastoral Partners Australia approach

Additionality is demonstrated through:

  • Historical clearing records
  • Satellite imagery showing suppressed regrowth prior to project commencement
  • Active management interventions e.g. cessation of clearing activities and active grazing adjustments
  • Evidence that forest regrowth would not occur without these project activities.

All Pastoral Partners Australia carbon projects are maintained for a minimum of 100 years, ensuring long-term carbon reduction and ecosystem recovery.

Yes. Pastoral Partners Australia uses adaptive grazing strategies that allow native vegetation to regrow whilst maintaining healthy, productive grazing land on its properties.

The implementation of carbon projects on Pastoral Partners Australia’s properties does not reduce their productive capacity. The careful grazing of cattle can continue in the tree regrowth areas without affecting the regeneration of the native forest. This is because cattle predominantly graze pasture and not tree regrowth. Over time there will be a slight gradual decline in the grazing productivity of these carbon areas as the trees grow and mature. This decline is offset, however, through Pastoral Partners Australia reinvesting the income earned from the carbon projects into the improvement of property infrastructure and grazing management which increases the productivity in the non-carbon areas. The net outcome is that the overall property productivity remains at least equal to what the property was prior to the implementation of a carbon project. This creates a balanced land use model that supports both grazing production, carbon sequestration and biodiversity improvement.

Yes. NFMR ACCUs are eligible for Climate Active reporting and are commonly used by organisations seeking high integrity Australian offsets.
