Terminology explained
A carbon credit represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) that has been either removed from the atmosphere or avoided from going into the atmosphere through a verified carbon project. In Australia, ACCUs (Australian Carbon Credit Units) are issued by the Clean Energy Regulator when a project demonstrates measurable emissions reductions or carbon sequestration. One ACCU = one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent under an approved ACCU methodology.
A carbon offset is the use of a carbon credit to mitigate emissions that an organisation cannot eliminate. When a company purchases and retires a carbon credit, it is effectively neutralising one tonne of its own emissions and this activity is referred to as carbon offsetting.
NFMR (Native Forest from Managed Regrowth) is an ACCU methodology that supports the regeneration of native forests on land that has been historically cleared and suppressed for grazing purposes. It requires evidence of prior clearing, active management to enable regrowth, and long term stewardship to maintain forest cover.
Net zero refers to the point at which an organisation, country, or global economy balances the amount of greenhouse gases it emits with the amount it removes from the atmosphere.
The Pastoral Partners Australia approach
Pastoral Partners Australia’s projects are grounded in real pastoral operations. Regeneration is managed by on-ground land managers who understand the landscape, grazing systems, and ecological processes. This combination of pastoral expertise and long-term stewardship ensures regeneration is genuine, durable, and aligned with productive land use.
Additionality is demonstrated through:
- Historical clearing records
- Satellite imagery showing suppressed regrowth prior to project commencement
- Active management interventions e.g. cessation of clearing activities and active grazing adjustments
- Evidence that forest regrowth would not occur without these project activities.
All Pastoral Partners Australia carbon projects are maintained for a minimum of 100 years, ensuring long-term carbon reduction and ecosystem recovery.
Yes. Regenerating native forests improves habitat quality, increases species diversity, stabilises soils, and enhances landscape resilience. While ACCUs are issued for carbon, the co-benefits are significant and increase the overall environmental impact of the project. Pastoral Partners Australia is in the process of implementing an Accounting for Nature (AfN) biodiversity certification with the assistance of Bush Heritage Australia. By the end of 2026 each of our ACCU’s will be stamped with an AfN biodiversity certification.
Yes. Pastoral Partners Australia uses adaptive grazing strategies that allow native vegetation to regrow whilst maintaining healthy, productive grazing land on its properties.
The implementation of carbon projects on Pastoral Partners Australia’s properties does not reduce their productive capacity. The careful grazing of cattle can continue in the tree regrowth areas without affecting the regeneration of the native forest. This is because cattle predominantly graze pasture and not tree regrowth. Over time there will be a slight gradual decline in the grazing productivity of these carbon areas as the trees grow and mature. This decline is offset, however, through Pastoral Partners Australia reinvesting the income earned from the carbon projects into the improvement of property infrastructure and grazing management which increases the productivity in the non-carbon areas. The net outcome is that the overall property productivity remains at least equal to what the property was prior to the implementation of a carbon project. This creates a balanced land use model that supports both grazing production, carbon sequestration and biodiversity improvement.

Working with pastoral partners australia
Our credits demonstrate high integrity because they are based on:
- Native forest regrowth on previously comprehensively cleared land (showcasing clear additionality)
- 100-year permanence commitments
- Transparent land use history
- Audited regrowth checks in line with the NFMR ACCU methodology
- On-ground management by experienced pastoral teams
